Hey guys, so I have a problem and I was wondering if you could help me.
Today I was baking my brownies again and I wanted to take some better photos as last time, but they weren’t to great either. Right now for taking photos I use my phones camera ( I have a HTC one M8).
So I was wondering if any of you know anything about cameras.
I don’t know if I should get like a compact camera with not that great quality, or if I should get a not so expensive ( because I’m a beginner) DSLR camera.
An other problem is that I don’t know a thing about camera.
I know how to handle a compact camera, but the quality of a DSLR is much better but than the problem is I don’t know how to handle them.
I really want to learn how to proper take photos.
So I hope that you guys can give some tips, because I don’t know what to do.
So if you have some tips leave them in the comments below.
xxx L.
I think that the phones make great pictures. I use it more than my camera. There are apps that really crank up the professional look.

I’m not even going to pretend to know anything about actual cameras to give advice but I would suggest to try cleaning the lens on your phone to see if improves your picture quality. In my experience phones start out great but as you use you get a build up on your camera lens that will effect picture quality. Think of tossing in and out of pockets, bags, touching and getting fingerprints etc. You may be surprised at the difference. 🙂

Thank you very much, now I’ll definitely clean my lens first!

I hope it helps. Mine was taking great pictures and then they looked dull or dark etc. Got the same advice and it made a huge difference. 🙂

Why don’t you try youcam for mobile? Its really good app and it has special enhancement features for food pictures.. Plus if you want you can invest in any entry level camera of Nikon or canon… M not much experienced but they are fabulous.. You can checkout my brothers site http://www.parth893.WordPress.com if you want to see pictures taken by Nikon 5200 D. I take pictures with his camera often n m creating one special food post for which I took pictures with his camera. I ll post it this week if you want to see.
Hope this helps…
Have great time… 🙂

Personally, I use my phone. I am so grateful as it’s easy and for the first time in my life I am actually taking pictures!

It all depends on your main subject and budget. If it is mainly for your own food then your phone is enough. If you have greater aspirations then I agree with the canon comment. All their cameras are great and a step up from a phone. Don’t be intimidated by a DSLR, you can do it, just takes practice.

Thanks, I’m still figuring out for what I’m going to use it. I really like photography, so maybe I’ll do the step up to a DSLR

Hi L! Thanks for following me!
I was (am!) in a very similar boat. I’m on a tight budget, so I researched a lot about using smartphones and taking good quality photos.
Quick, short (“short”.. I’m a wordy person) tips I can give are:
– use a tripod whenever possible (http://joby.com/gorillapod are supposed to be really good. I was *THIS* close to buying one, but I went for a DSLR instead and now have to save money for a bigger tripod. ahhhh)
– use the timer function (2 seconds is way more than enough) or voice commands to help cut down on the inevitable movement when you tap the capture button on your phone
– fiddle with your camera settings. White balance, ISO…. There are also new camera apps out there that allow you to do things like manual focus, change exposure time.. (https://www.androidpit.com/best-android-camera-app)
– as vickgoodwin suggested, there are apps that help improve your photos. My current go-to is snapseed
Hope this helps! I’ve JUST started looking into photography only a few days ago. It’s exciting and SUPER intimidating at the same time. Lots of luck to you! : )
